Note from the President-
Jon Tandy, President 2004-2005

We are losing little parts of our heritage every day.  Whether through neglect, or intent, or accident, important artifacts and documents disappear routinely.  Part of our mission as a historical society is to preserve and to encourage others to preserve the really important parts of our past for future generations.  It is a tall order.  No one group has the resources to be able to preserve the places and things that define us.  We can only do our small part and look for others to help.

There are some who misunderstand the intention of historic preservation.  It is not our goal to preserve every house ever built or every piece of paper ever printed.  Our goal is to preserve those things  which are truly significant to our history and some of those other things which are representative of our past.  Certainly we should preserve something like the Roebling Bridge.  And while no one would argue that we should preserve every B-17 ever built, it would be a shame if we had none of those airplanes preserved.
